Location: Nearly 7km. from Falakata, Falakata is a census town and police station
of Alipurduar subdivision in Jalpaiguri district in the state of West Bengal,
India. Falakata is located at 26.53°N 89.2°E It has an average elevation of 88
metres (288 feet). It is believed that Subhas Chandra Bose stayed at Falakata
in Soulmari Ashram. This place is a recently declared Municipality. Falakata
High School is the oldest and largest school, having about 3000 students.
Mujnai is the main river. Subhash Pathagar is the old town library. The Town
Club is situated beside NH-31 and 110 km away from Siliguri. Its Founder
President was Nirendra Kr. Chanda (Alias Kanu Chanda) and its Founder Secretary
was Nitish Das. Falakata is surrounded by rich forests, corn fields and the
nearby Kunjanagar Eco-Park.

animals are not found always, but sitting on the Watch Tower you will feel
nature as your own. There is arrangement for picnic. So day time remains
lively. The evenings are beautiful. If you go up the Watch Tower in a moon-lit
night, you will not like to come down. There is electric wire fencing for
safety from elephant attacks. For night stay there are Forest Bungalow and

Jaldapara
Wildlife Sanctuary - This Sanctuary is on the National Highway number 31 and
nearly 125 kilometers from Siliguri. It is spread over an approximate area of
114 square kilometers at an average elevation of 61 meters. Dooars is home to
Sanctuaries, National Parks & Tiger Reserves with a diversified range of
flora and fauna. Guest can spot mighty bison, leopard, spotted deer, barking
deer, sambar, hog deer, reptiles, herds of elephants, wild boars and the rarest
variety of animals and birds. One can also spot pied hornbill, Racket - tailed
drongo, Paradise flycatcher, Crested Eagle, Pallas's Fishing Eagle, Shikra,
Jungle fowl, Peafowl, Partridges and many other bird species. Seasonal
variations are there but the best season to visit is October to May. March and

closed from 15th June to 15th September each year. One horn rhino are the other
attractions. Birding, angling, tribal tours are few of the options for guest to
enjoy and there can be other options like religious tour, tribal tour to Cooch
Behar and Bhutan. The best place to observe wild animals are the watch tower in
the vicinity as animals come regularly to the salt reservoir just below the
tower or the water body close to these towers. Jaldapara still holds the second
largest population of Indian One - horned Rhino in the world roaming around in
the grassland surrounding the area.
